Auckland take a comfortable 25-3 lead over Canterbury into halftime after a dominant first half performance. Auckland started strongly with a try just three minutes in and added two quick penalties to open up an 11-0 lead. A second Auckland try followed before Canterbury were finally able to get on the board with a penalty after 31 minutes. Auckland went over for try number three five minutes from halftime for a commanding advantage at the break.
