The Hurricanes and Blues head into the break deadlocked at 15-15. The Blues opened the scoring with an early penalty, but the Hurricanes hit back with the games first try to lead 7-3. The Blues responded with a try to edge in front, but were then reduced to 14 players after picking up a yellow card. The Hurricanes were unable to capitalize on their numerical advantage, with a try for the Blues extending their lead out to 15-7. The Hurricanes would however finish the half strongly, with a late try and a penalty with the final play seeing the scores level at the break.
