Joe Roberts signs new Scarlets contract

Wales international centre Joe Roberts has become the latest player to sign a new contract with the Scarlets.
The 24-year-old, who was part of Wales’ 2025 Six Nations campaign, has penned a fresh deal to keep him at his home-town club.
A Llanelli product, Joe played junior rugby for New Docks Stars and Burry Port before coming through the ranks at Coleg Sir Gâr and the Scarlets age-grade teams and Academy.
He made his senior Scarlets debut in 2020 and his competitive bow the same season during the 2021 Rainbow Cup.
After overcoming a serious knee injury, Joe became a regular in the Scarlets midfield and earned his first Test cap in the 2023 World Cup warm-up against England.
He returned from another knee issue in November and featured in three of Wales’ Tests during the 2025 Championship.
With 43 Scarlets appearances to his name Joe is excited for what lies ahead in the coming seasons.
“It is my home-town club, I came through the age-grade teams and the Academy here, it is brilliant to be staying on,” he said.
“It wasn’t a great start to the season being injured, but it’s been good to get back playing for the Scarlets and then being part of the Wales set-up again, which was unexpected.
“You look at the signings we have made and the players we have retained, especially in the backline, it’s hugely exciting.”
Joe is set to be involved in Saturday’s big URC clash with the DHL Stormers in Llanelli as the Scarlets push for a place in the top-eight and the end-of-season play-offs.
He added: ”It’s been good to be back here this week and we have a big game against the Stormers, a team who are coming here pretty stacked so I’m looking forward to ripping into them and then the back-to-back derbies against the Ospreys, which we’re all looking forward to.
“The next few weeks are massive for us and I am sure the supporters are going to be right behind the boys. They have a big part to play.”
With fellow backs Macs Page and Tomi Lewis having also renewed their contracts and Joe Hawkins on the way from Exeter Chiefs this summer, the Scarlets’ three-quarter line is going to be one to watch next season.
Head coach Dwayne Peel said: “Joe is a home-grown player, a Llanelli boy who has gone on to reach the top of the game and epitomises everything we want to achieve here at the club.
“He has had to overcome some serious injuries for a young man, but he has shown his determination and resilience to not only get back into the Scarlets side, but earn Wales recognition as well.
“Joe is a big part of our plans over the coming seasons and if you look at the young talent we are putting together in that back division, it is exciting for everyone at the club.”
