Ma'afu had been playing for Australia's National Rugby Championship leaders NSW Country Eagles and has won three caps for his country.
After suffering injuries to Lewis Robling, George Eastwell and Regan King, Championship side Jersey Reds signed the Tonga international back.
In April 2021, he confirmed his retirement from professional rugby.
