Born in Perth, Australia, Alexander Masibaka is a dynamic and powerful back-row forward who qualifies to represent Scotland through his Paisley-born mother. A standout talent from a young age, Masibaka’s early career included a spell with Super Rugby side Western Force before making the move to Europe in 2022, when he signed with Top 14 giants Montpellier.
Seeking regular game time, he was loaned to Pro D2 club Soyaux-Angoulême the following season. There, he quickly made a name for himself with his explosive ball-carrying and physicality, scoring 12 tries in 30 appearances and becoming a cornerstone of the team’s forward pack.
England international and teammate Jonny May described Masibaka’s playing style, saying: “His super strength is carrying the ball and breaking tackles.” That power and consistency caught the eye of the Scotland selectors.
In 2025, Masibaka earned his first call-up to the Scotland squad ahead of the Six Nations and was subsequently selected again for the Pacific Tour, marking the start of his international journey in dark blue.
