Born and raised in North Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C), Weyell was first introduced to rugby through his father who played the sport. It was while attending Handsworth Secondary School and competing for his local rugby club Capilano RFC that he grew his passion for the game. Following his high school career, Weyell chose to attend the University of British Columbia and continue playing rugby with the Thunderbirds. From 2012 to 2017, Weyell and the Thunderbirds went on an incredible run of success, placing 3rd at the 2015 World University Rugby Cup and winning the B.C Premier League for 3 consecutive years from 2015 to 2017.
Recently, Weyell followed his success at UBC by winning the 2017 Canadian Rugby Championship, playing at lock for the BC Bear’s Senior Men’s team alongside his former UBC teammates as well as future Seawolves Phil Mack, George Barton, and Cam Polson
