Kaino played in New Zealand's provincial competition for Counties Manukau and was coached by All Blacks great Tana Umaga, before relocating to the north of France to join CS Vienne.
After four seasons in the French second division, the back-rower returned to the southern hemisphere and chose Canberra in a bid to crack into the ACT Brumbies squad.
