Zimbabwe Rugby lifts the African Cup. In talks with former Wallaby center

Zimbabwe Rugby Union are in groundbreaking talks with capped Wallaby centre, Kyle Godwin, All black back row Gareth Evans and Benetton Lock Eli Snyman to return to Zimbabwe colours in a bid to qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.


The Sables as they are called, lifted the African Cup in Uganda last weekend beating Algeria 29-3. It was the first time Zimbabwe became African champions in over a decade.

Zimbabwe beat Namibia for the first time in 23 years on their way to the final.

The Sables truimph saw them climb to a nine year high ranking of 28 in the World Rankings.

Head Coach Piet Benade says winning the African Cup was the biginning of thei rugby transformation in Zimbabwe. "We indent to play several games to upskill all our locally-based players starting with game against Limpopo Blue Bulls, then we intent to travel either to South Africa or Europe to play three matches all before we close for Christmas
