Watch: Southland kick off the Mitre 10 Cup with an outrageous 80m try
- 2412
A South v North derby got the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup season underway with Southland playing host to Northland in New Zealand's premier domestic competition, the Mitre 10 Cup.
Southland have been the competition's whipping boys over the past few seasons with their last win in the Mitre 10 Cup coming all the way back in round eight 2016 when they defeated Northland 39-31, equating to a 21-match losing streak.
However, they do look as if they will try end that this season with the signing of Marty McKenzie along with some other handy additions to the side.
They got their season off to a flyer against Northland scoring this fantastic try from inside their own 22 and took a 10-6 lead into the break.
