Barbeary grabbed his second not too long after as he stepped inside after carrying off the back of a five-metre scrum dot down.
Dan Robson scored Wasps' fourth try to open up a 3-29 lead but Biarritz would have the final say of the half as Lucas Peyresblanques scored in the 28th minute. Half time: Biarritz 8-29 Wasps.
Mathieu Hirigoyen sliced Wasps' lead to just 14 points just two minutes into the second half with Steffon Armitage's try making it a seven point game with 20 minutes to play.
A Jimmy Gopperth penalty gave Wasps some breathing space with 18 minutes to go but Biarritz created a tense finish as Bastien Soury scored with 12 minutes left on the clock.
Barbeary ran a clever line to round off an excellent team attack and seal the result for the visitors completing his hattrick with five minutes to play.
