Van der Flier among Champions Cup’s top scorers
- 1718
Following the conclusion of the Heineken Champions Cup pool stage and ahead of the Round of 16, we take a look at which players are currently heading the scoring charts.
Points – Antoine Hastoy (50)
The Stade Rochelais fly-half is well clear in the points table, averaging 12.5 per game to put him 15 ahead of second-placed Cell C Sharks No.10 Curwin Bosch.
In his maiden Heineken Champions Cup campaign, Hastoy provided just shy of 42% of La Rochelle’s points as they topped Pool B.
The former Section Paloise man has kicked seven penalties and 12 conversions, as well as notching a try which contributed to his best haul – a 26-point effort in a 36-29 Round 2 win at Ulster Rugby.
Tries – Josh van der Flier (5)
Leinster Rugby flanker Van der Flier is enjoying another prosperous campaign and is just one try short of his total Heineken Champions Cup haul for last season, which saw him named EPCR European Player of the Year.
A four-strong contingent trail Van der Flier, with Montpellier Hérault Rugby’s Thomas Darmon, Munster Rugby’s Gavin Coombes and Saracens duo Ben Earl and Elliot Daly all on four tries.
Goalkicking % – Paddy Jackson, Charlie Atkinson (100%)
Jackson may have seen his London Irish side drop out of both EPCR competitions after a draw and three defeats in Pool B, but the fly-half ended his campaign with 100% kicking accuracy, slotting all nine of his attempts across three games.
Meanwhile, Leicester Tigers’ Charlie Atkinson will look to continue his immaculate record from the tee in the Round of 16, with the 21-year-old having so far hit the target 10 times from 10 kicks.
Only four other players managed a goalkicking percentage of more than 90 in the pool stage – Leicester’s Handre Pollard (92.3), ASM Clermont Auvergne’s Anthony Belleau (91.7), Lyon’s Leo Berdeu (90.9) and Edinburgh Rugby’s Emiliano Boffelli (90.9)
