Handre Pollard faces an unpaid six months
Due to a contractual 'glitch' Pollard may not be covered by injury insurance by the Bulls or SA Rugby. According to reports, Pollard needed to play for the Bulls after returning from Japan in order to be covered by injury insurance again. He was injured in a freak training accident before he got the opportunity to do so.
This comes at the same time as rumours that a new clause in Springbok player's contracts will require them to be rested during October. The Boks traditionally tour Europe
in November and Japanese coaches are unwilling to allow players to join their sides in December. This leaves top players unavailable for lucrative Asian deals.
Egg on the face of the French Rugby Federation
Samoan-born David Smith spent a brief few hours with Guy Noves' Six Nations side after being called up by the coach on Sunday afternoon. His time with the team was brought to an abrupt end when the French Rugby Federation (FFR) discovered that Smith had previously played a Sevens tournament for New Zealand - making him ineligible to play for France.
"Everyone hates England,” suggests Eddie Jones
When asked about the popularity of the England team, forthright Australian coach Eddie Jones said that he believed that the other Six Nations countries harboured an instinctive hate of of England. He went on to say that drumming England's national pride was not part of his role as coach, "“As I said when I took over I’m not English, I’m Australian. I will be absolutely committed to them but I am not going to talk to them about things I don’t understand. We’ve got staff who can do that and if we think it is appropriate we will but it’s not something I’ll be staying up at night worrying about.”
