Cabannes retires after being released by Castres

Former Castres centre Romain Cabannes has announced his retirement from rugby after being unable to find a new club.

"I have put an end to my professional career. This is not the fault of Castres, neither of Biarritz, it is the fault of the Pau," said the 31-year-old.

"Simon Mannix of Pau made me an offer but never called me back or return the pre-contract. I'll be frank: he kissed me on the mouth. It's that simple."

Cabannes was a Top 14 champion with Castres back in 2013 after joining the side in 2009.

Gonzalo Tiesi has retired from rugby

The Argentine outside center made the announcement on twitter where he declared: “the end of this incredible voyage. I will always be thankful for what I have lived during these 12 years”.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a successful career in both the Premiership and Top 14, appearing for London Irish, the Harlequins, Stade Français, London Welsh and the Newcastle Falcons.

Lambie to miss trip to Wellington

Patrick Lambie will not be on a plane to Wellington this week to face the Hurricanes as his recovery is not satisfying.

"...Patrick has to be symptom free to start his exercise, and then he gets exercise-induced symptoms or he's symptom-free, and from there you can clear him. That hasn't happened yet," Sharks Director of Rugby Gary Gold explains.

Lambie is still suffering the after-effects of the massive late hit he took from CJ Stander in the June Tests while playing for the Springboks.

GB 7s confirm their Olympic squad

The British Olympic Association has today announced the names of the 24 men and women who will compete in rugby sevens at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Brumbies lose Lomax to the Rebels

The Rebels have signed hulking Australian U20s tighthead prop Tyrel Lomax from the Brumbies.

The 20-year-old, son of former Rugby League international and Canberra Raiders legend John Lomax, has signed his first professional contract - a two-year deal with the Rebels from 2017.
