Thrilling weekend of rugby comes to a close, here are our top 5 performers of the weekend.
Jimmy Gopperth - Wasps
Jimmy Gopperth was incredible today back in the familiar number 10 shirt having played at full back in the Champions Cup. He managed the game exquisitely knowing exactly when to kick for territory and when to keep the ball in hand. He recorded a 100% success rate from the tee with 5/5 successful kicks. He also managed to score two tries himself, running great lines and showing great pace to secure the winning bonus point for Wasps. It was a perfect performance for the out-half and it saw him receive the thoroughly deserved man of the match award.
Owen Farrell - Saracens
In his first Aviva Premiership game since his spell on the side line with injury the Englishman was simply incredible. He was one of the stand out performers in a very impressive Saracens performance. He went 4/5 from the tee including two excellent conversions from the touchline. His kicking to the corner was impeccable as time and time again he pinned Leicester back inside their own 22. Saracens will be delighted to have their talisman back going forward both domestically and in their European campaign.
Rory Scannell - Munster
The young inside centre was on fire in Munster’s PRO12 clash with Ulster this weekend. At 14-0 down he managed to score a vital try just before half time giving Munster a bit of hope and shifting momentum in their favour for the second half. In the second half he took over the kicking duties and successfully converted a Jaco Taute try to level the scores at 14-14. The crucial moment of the game which ultimately decided the score was the 75th minute drop goal which Scannell beautifully slotted to earn his side a key victory away from home showing nerves of steel and great kicking ability.
Billy Vunipola - Saracens
Yet another fantastic performance from the big number 8 today at Allianz Park. He caused the Leicester defence all sorts of problems from start to finish with his pace and power. He made a few huge hits in defence forcing knock ons and securing turnovers. He even managed to score a try of his own following a huge maul from his forward team mates. A great performance by the big man who looks to be at his absolute best coming into the November internationals.
Pato Fernandez – Clermont
The Argentinian out-half was immense in his sides TOP14 away clash with Brive. He notched a 100% success rate from the tee kicking an incredible 8/8 kicks. He also managed to score the first and last tries of the game, one the product of an excellent break and the latter an intercept in which he showed his alertness and ability to read the game as well as scintillating pace to burst down the entire field untouched. A stand out performance by the young man making him the worthy winner of the man of the match award.
