Quade Cooper's Olympic dreams dashed

In a statement released today, the Australia Sevens program announced that it will not consider Quade Cooper for the final two rounds of the 2015-216 Sevens Series or the Rio 2016 Olympics.

"There's no doubt Quade is a quality player, but put simply, we just haven't had the opportunity to work with him as much as we would have liked over the past five months," said Australian Sevens Head Coach Andy Friend.

Glen Ella to join England rugby in Australia

Ella, who has played club rugby alongside Eddie Jones, earned four caps for the Wallabies at full back between 1982-85.

He will join the England squad and coaching staff in Brisbane and work for the duration of the three Test series as a skills coach. Working with Jones he will be responsible for helping develop England’s attack play and provide specialist backs skills coaching.

“I’m delighted to be teaming up with Eddie again and working alongside the rest of the coaching staff,” said Ella.

“Eddie’s got England moving in the right direction, but there’s still a lot of work to be done, particularly in attack.

Three in contention for the Premiership Golden Boot

The Gilbert Golden Boot is the top prize for the leading goal kicker in the regular season. Three players are currently in contention for the award with Exeter's Gareth Steenson currently in the top spot, more than forty points ahead of Sale's Danny Cipriani at 162 points and Wasps Jimmy Gopperth at 160.

Andy Challis, Gilbert Rugby Brand Manager, commented “The Gilbert Golden boot is a prestigious award, always hotly contested among the best kickers in the country and one that we are delighted to have a longstanding association with. Legends of the game such as Michael Lynagh already have their name etched on the trophy and on 18 May, at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Awards, we look forward to handing over the golden boot to this season’s winner.”
