Three Games To Look Out For In The Premiership This Weekend

The Premiership is back this weekend, and we have handpicked three matches we believe could be the matches to keep a close eye on for Round 6.


Saracens vs Bristol Bears

 

London outfit Saracens head into this weekend full of confidence after last weekend's victory against Irish giants Munster in the European Champions Cup.


Mark McCall’s side, who are currently on -18 points in the Premiership, will be vying to cut their deficit at the foot of the table, as they lay 22 points behind 11th-place Leicester Tigers.



Bristol, who are currently second in the Premiership with three wins from five, picked up early wins over Bath, Sale and Exeter already this season but a draw at home to London Irish might have slowed down their momentum.




Players To Watch:


Saracens — Owen Farrell

Faz might has only had one league appearance for his club this season, but we feel that you will see more of him now seeing that Sarries are trying to get out the bottom spot of the league. In one game he made 15 tackles and made six carries which is not bad numbers for a 10.


Bristol Bears — Charles Piutau

The fullback, who has scored one try this season, has really contributed heavily on attack for the Bear this season. Piutau has made 87 carries, made six clean breaks, gave three try assists and also made 551 metres.



Sale Sharks vs Northampton Saints


The Premiership table-toppers, Northampton Saints, will be happy they back to domestic competition after conceding 93 points and losing twice to Leo Cullen’s Leinster in the European Championship.


The start of the season has seen the Saints win four games out of five and are unbeaten at Franklin’s Gardens but their confidence might have taken a little bit of a knock after last weekend’s loss.


Sale Sharks, who are seven points below the Saints in the table, will be eager to get back to winning ways on home soil, but they really struggled against Exeter last weekend.


Players To Watch:


Sale Sharks — Jono Ross

The South African born flanker has been in terrific form up until now and has also led the Sharks well. In his five appearances he has made 94% of his tackles and has carried the ball 47 times.


Northampton Saints — Taqele Naiyaravoro


The Fijian born Australian has scored three tries this season and is second on the overall metres gained table in Premiership competition.



Wasps vs Harlequins


Wasps only victory in Premiership so far this season was 30-22 at home to Bath in round 3, their most recent home game in the competition, and they have not won successive Premiership matches at the Ricoh Arena since April 2018.


This weekend they face a Harlequins side that have won just one of their last ten away games in all tournaments: 21-18 at London Irish in round 2 in September.


The Quins beat Gloucester 23-19 at Twickenham Stoop in round 5 but have not won consecutive matches in the competition since March.


Players To Watch:


Wasps — Matteo Minozzi

This game is the perfect game for the Italian to step and produce some of his trademark footwork and sleek attacking ability.


Harlequins — Gabriel Ibitoye


The winger has been deadly on attack up until now, he has scored two tries, made six clean breaks and finally has made 265 metres with the ball in hand.
