Super Rugby Preview: Lions
- 2434
The Lions were easily the best South African team in last year’s competition, finishing in 2nd place overall after losing to the Hurricanes in final.
Johan Ackermann has perfected balance in his side of attacking and defence rugby, as they scored the most points last season, heading into the play-offs.
The Lions will hope they can push on in 2017 despite star prop, Julian Redelinghuys, being ruled out indefinitely and Flanker Warwick Tecklenburg retiring.
Lions supporters will be pleased to see the likes of Elton Jantjies, Rohan Janse van Rensburg, Faf de Klerk and Malcolm Marx make a return, having represented Springboks last year. Their experience should push the franchise forward in the future.
The Lions kick off their 2017 campaign against the Cheetahs on 25 February, Bloemfontein.
