Super Rugby champions sign Spencer

The Blues have got another Spencer in the mix.

Payton Spencer, the son of former All Black and Blues great Carlos Spencer, has signed with the reigning Super Rugby champions for the 2025 season.

The 20-year-old, having turned down Chiefs, Crusaders and Highlanders, has been in the Blues’ system for a couple of years, but on Wednesday the Auckland-based franchise confirmed he had earned his first full-contract.

A member of Auckland’s NPC team, Payton Spencer has also been a part of the All Blacks Sevens squad since the start of last 2023.

Unlike his first five-eighth father, who played 99 games for the Blues between 1996 and 2005, and 44 tests for the All Blacks, Payton Spencer plays fullback.
