Super Rugby Americas adds a new franchise starting in 2025.

Today, the Argentine northwest presented a new franchise that will join the Super Rugby Americas starting in 2025: Tarucas.

The new franchise was launched on Tuesday night at the Catalinas Hotel in San Miguel de Tucumán, steps away from what will be its headquarters, the Tucumán Lawn Tennis, in the city's Parque 9 de Julio. Its home jersey will be completely orange.

Marcello Calandra, President of Sudamérica Rugby, Marcelo Corbalán Costilla, Second Vice President of the Argentine Rugby Union, and Fernando Renta Mora, CEO of the new franchise, participated in the presentation. In addition, the event was attended by Argentine rugby authorities from the region and the province, as well as players and former players from both the provincial teams and Los Pumas.

“For Sudamérica Rugby and Super Rugby Americas, the incorporation of a new franchise within the orbit of the Argentine Rugby Union is of utmost importance, with all that this means,” said Calandra in Tucumán.

“Being able to count on a franchise from the Northwest of Argentina, based in the province of Tucumán, ensures that it will bring guaranteed success to the competition; we all know what Tucumán rugby means, with its history and passion, within a leading country in the region.”

Thus, Argentine rugby will have a third franchise competing in the continent's main professional tournament, joining Dogos XV and Pampas.

“Super Rugby Americas is strengthened with this addition and further encourages development in the region,” said the President of Sudamérica Rugby.

Corbalán Costilla said: “Super Rugby Americas is a fundamental tournament for the region and its development. The entry of Tarucas will increase the competition of the event and strengthen both Argentine and South American rugby.”

Representing Tarucas, its CEO Renta Mora added: “The north of Argentina is joining this tournament for the first time and it is historic, a great leap in quality for this sport. The region has a vast history in national and international rugby; high-level players were trained in clubs in the provinces of the North Grande and are currently protagonists of Los Pumas and other professional teams. We are very excited about this great project and we have no doubt that it will generate a synergy so that the next players of the national team will come from here.”

Why Tarucas? It is a native deer in Argentina that is an emblem of the Argentine Northwest Region and represents a very valuable Natural and Cultural Heritage for the Region. It is one of the seven species of deer native to Argentina.
