Stormers captain Siya Kolisi has been ruled out for the rest of the Super Rugby season following a knee injury.
Kolisi sustained the injury in the win against the Highlanders at Newlands last weekend and was sent for scans immediately after the match.
Steven Kitshoff will captain the Stormers against the Lions at Ellis Park on Saturday in the absence of Kolisi.
In a further blow to the team, Pieter-Steph du Toit and Kobus van Dyk have also been ruled out with respective injuries.
The Lions have also suffered a blow with the news that Warren Whiteley received treatment for kidney stones last weekend, but they have not been completely removed and he is taking medication.
The Lions coach admitted that the No 8 will not be fit in time to be considered for Super Rugby selection again this year.
