Six Nations Highlights: Scotland v Wales
- 1164
Wales kept their hopes of a Grand Slam alive with an 18-11 away win over Scotland in round 4 of the Six Nations Championship. Scotland opened the scoring with an early penalty, but Wales hit back immediately with the games first try to lead 7-3. Scotland reduced the deficit to a single point with a second penalty, but it was all Wales thereafter in the first half, as the visitors kicked a penalty of their own before crossing for a second try to take a 15-6 advantage into the break. Scotland came out fighting in the second half, dominating both territory and possession, but were kept out by some outstanding Welsh defence. Eventually the pressure paid off as Scotland went over for their first try midway through the second half to close the gap to just five points at 15-11. Scotland had their tails up as an intense finish followed, with the hosts having their chances to snatch a win, but the Welsh line would not be breached a second time as they repelled wave upon wave of Scottish attack. Wales managed to march upfield in the closing stages, with a penalty at the death sealing an incredibly hard fought victory.
