- 1224
England ground out a 32-20 away win over Ireland to bring the opening round of the Six Nations Championship to a close. England got off to a dream start, with an early try giving them a 7-0 lead. Ireland pulled three points back with a penalty before England picked up a yellow card. Ireland went over for their first try to lead 10-7, but England hit back soon after with an opportunistic try after an error at the back to make it 14-10. England slotted a penalty on the stroke of halftime to take a 17-10 lead into the break after a bruising first forty. Ireland drew first blood 15 minutes into the second half, with a penalty reducing the deficit to just four points. England crossed for their third try ten minutes later and kicked a penalty with a little under ten minutes to play to take control of the match at 25-13. Momentum had swung in the visitors favour and an intercept try with four minutes to play secured the bonus point and all but wrapped up the match at 32-13. Ireland threw caution to the wind and managed to run in a late try that would serve as little consolation, as England opened their Six Nations campaign with an away win over the defending champions to get off to the perfect start.
