In an interesting new development, former All Black coach Sir Steve Hansen will be joining NRL outfit Canterbury Bulldogs in a high-performance consultancy role.
Hansen was All Black head coach from 2012-2019, bowing out from the position after last year’s World Cup in Japan. Under his mentorship, the All Blacks boasted a 86.92% win percentage, making the 61 year old one of the most revered coaches in the world.
Hansen will join forces with the club’s new head coach Trent Barrett, who is stepping to fill the shoes of Steve Price.
"Everyone from the boardroom to the playing group, all our leaders and all our coaches will benefit from having Steve at the club," said Barrett.
"We've stayed in touch and we've been talking about this role for a few months. This is really big for us.
"When I got the job at Canterbury I just thought he'd be ideal and he was keen to help out and try something new. The aura that he carries and all the experience he's had.”
Bulldogs Chief Executive Andrew Hill was delighted that the club would be able to learn from someone of Steve Hansen's pedigree and background :
'Being able to bring Steve Hansen on board as a High Performance Consultant with the club is tremendous news for everyone associated with the Bulldogs as he is one of the most highly respected figures throughout all of sports.
