Should Super Rugby's ace place kicker leave Japan?

Should Super Rugby's ace place kicker leave Japan?

Former Highlanders flyhalf Hayden Parker has been making the headlines for his incredible goal kicking record that has seen him convert his last 32 attempts at goal for the Sunwolves.

Heading into this weekend's fixture against the Melbourne Rebels, Parker could break his record of 38 consecutive successful kicks at goal, a record he set last season.

The sharpshooter has missed just one kick at goal in Sunwolves colours, converting 71 of 72 attempts. His form is drawing speculation to whether he will leave the Japanese side.

The 28-year-old is on the path to becoming eligible for Japan but the draw of a bigger paycheck or a return home could persuade him to make a switch.

Parker may feel that he has some unfinished business in Dunedin with the Highlanders. Colin Slade and Lima Sopoaga held the 10 jersey during his time with the Highlanders while injuries also hampered his claim for a starting role with the side.

His sublime kicking form has seen a lot of speculation arise about where his next stop would be if he were to leave his Japanese club Kobe Steelers and the Sunwolves, we take a look at potential moves.

The Highlanders would surely be interested in the 28-year-old with young Josh Ioane and Bryn Gatland both developing as potential starters while cult hero Marty Banks signed a one-year contract with the side for this season and is likely to move on thereafter.

Staying in New Zealand, he is unlikely to get any interest from the Blues who finally have Otere Black fit and firing while Harry Plummer has signed a long-term deal with the side and they have young Stephen Perofeta on their books but currently sidelined.

The Chiefs could be a potential, but unlikely, destination for Parker with the Waikato based franchise harbouring the McKenzie brothers, Tian Falcon and Jack Debreczeni as first five options going forward with Stephen Donald is also there just for this season.

The Hurricanes and Crusaders are both well stocked in the position and are unlikely to try to persuade Parker even if the Hurricanes lose Barrett abroad.

Looking to Europe, Parker could be a handy addition to a number of sides. Bath are still looking to bolster their flyhalf stocks after announcing Rhys Preistland would leave the club before backtracking on the decision.

The Cardiff Blues could be in the market for a new flyhalf if Gareth Anscombe decides to take up a big money contract in the Premiership or Top 14.

According to some reports, the Harlequins were looking for a marquee flyhalf and an experienced Parker would certainly be a great addition with James Lang and Marcus Smith still in the early stages of their career.

Staying in England, the Leicester Tigers could bring Parker to compensate for the absence of George Ford when he is on England duty.

Looking to France, Union Bordeaux Begles could be a good destination with Brock James set to retire from his playing days completely and a fit Matthieu Jalibert likely to miss large portions of their season when he is drafted into the French national set up.

Where would you like see Parker go if he were to leave the Sunwolves?
