Serin sets up Bordeaux for a convincing victory over Lyon
- 1533
Lyon will be beating themselves up for their second half as they went into the break only trailing by 5. In an attempt to move above Toulouse and into third place on the Top 14 table, the Lyon side were firm favourites going into the game. However, the Bordeux-Begles had other plans as they convincingly put aside Lyon 35-13. Baptise Serin laid a solid platform for his side as he scored all eight points in the first half. Afa Amosa battered his way through the Lyon defence which allowed Bordeux to find the try line four times to secure the bonus point.
While Lyon went down, it was the performances of Charlie Ngatai and Pierre-Louis Barassi that ensured that they go down while putting a fight. The top performers for today’s game are:
Baptiste Serin - Bordeux
Over 100 games for his side and today was another classical performance by the French International. His support play and his kicks from the base were a solid platform for the Begles today. Despite the tough kicking conditions, Serin was able to kick over three penalties and a try conversion. This was together with a try that he scored in the first half after running brilliant support lines to get onto the end of Alexandre Roumat offload.
Afaesetiti Amosa - Bordeux
The extremely strong and dependable eight man pushed his way through many defenders and showed his strength throughout the match today. The Ex-Pro D2 player who joined Bordeuax-Begles earlier this year showed why he is the most dangerous ball carrier his side has. As a result, most of his carries were often the beginning of Begles four tries. His most notable carry was during the lead up to Serin's try in the first half.
Pierre-Louis Barassi - Lyon
Despite Lyon taking the fall in today's match, there were a few players that performed well and Barassi was one of them. The young 20 year old used his frame to good effect today as he made multiple line breaks. While this may have not been enough to turn around the result his carries gave Lyon the necessary confidence to play for the full 80 minutes.
George Tilsey - Bordeaux
The 100kg right winger definitely put his hand up today with a very dominating performance out wide. While he did beat the first defender on many occasions, it was what he did afterwards that caught the eye. His raging runs and line breaks earned Bordeaux much needed to territory to go on and triumph today.
Semi Radradra - Bordeaux
Radradra's performance today was one that could not be ignored by the commentators as they mentioned his name play after play. Not to say it was not deserved as he was one of the players to cross over the whitewash. He did well to show his 7s skills and today's performance was one that will give the Fijian international a much needed boost as we go into the international year end season.
Overall it was a very good performance and much needed outcome for Bordeaux. Lyon will be reviewing this game and asking themselves what they could have done better to ensure the victory.
