Scotland Player Ratings v France

Scotland Player Ratings v France

Wales were crowned Six Nations champions as Scotland denied France with a dramatic long-awaited 27-23 victory in Paris on Friday despite Finn Russell's red card.

15. Stuart Hogg - 7.5

Spent 10 minutes in the bin but overall Stuart Hogg had another fine outing for Scotland. He kicked superbly combining nicely with Russell and Price to pin France backwards. Also made some bold calls as captain which ultimately led to his side winning the match.

14. Darcy Graham - 6

Didn't quite get into the game as he well as he would have liked with just three carries. Jones seemed more of an attack threat when he replaced Graham in the 67th minute.

13. Chris Harris - 8

France's attack failed to get going at times and that was largely down to the impact Harris had on defence. He chopped down Vakatawa with a huge hit in the first half and regularly cut off dangerous attacks with some great reads. Not quite as impactful on attack but solid enough in that department.

12. Sam Johnson - 6

Lasted 73 minutes in Paris but wasn't as effective as he usually is. With Scotland kicking in behind more, Johnson saw little ball on attack while he missed three tackles. He also had a horrendous attempt at a grubber with his fellow teammates saving him further embarrassment with some quick thinking.

11. Duhan van der Merwe - 7.5

Scored the two tries to secure the victory. The first he may well have been lucky with what looked like a double movement. Caught out of position for Dulin's try but that won't matter too much for him after he scored the winner.

Didn't see as much ball as he did against Italy but made the most of what he did get.

10. Finn Russell - 5

His game management was fantastic throughout the game as he pinned France back with some clever dabs in behind. A fumble here and there will always come in his position. His drop goal attempt looked like an odd call at first but with Hogg in the sin bin, it was a nice time waster as Scotland would get possession back anyway from the dropout. His red card almost cost it for Scotland when they looked certain to score what then would have been the winner. A good performance, undone by the red card.

9. Ali Price - 7

Caught out defensively on occasion but he was part of Scotland's three man kicking team that pressurized the French and forced them to attack from deep. Did well at the end to grind the win out for the Scots.

1. Rory Sutherland - 5

Worked over by Haouas in the scrum but Sutherland made all his attempted tackles and made three strong carries and won a turnover before he was forced off the pitch 10 minutes into the second half.

2. George Turner - 7

An assured performance all rounded and had the battle wounds to show for an honest day's work. A strong finish to a solid Six Nations campaign where he did his stocks wonders.

3. Zander Fagerson - 6.5

Effective around the park and put in a mammoth 74-minute shift after Berghan's injury. Baille did get the upper hand on him in the scrums, however.

4. Sam Skinner - 7

Part of the well functioning lineout that denied the French of a solid set-piece to attack from. Effective with the ball in hand on defence too. A really tidy shift.

5. Grant Gilchrist - 7.5

Worked out the French lineout well and picked off a few of Marchand's darts. A big shift on defence while also used well as a distributor.

6. Jamie Ritchie - 8

Arguably his best game of the competition leading the defensive effort. Won a few penalties, including a crucial one near the end.

7. Hamish Watson - 8

Yet another top draw performance.

He did it all on defence and attack and was a pest at the breakdown. Has been in the reckoning for the Lions tour.

8. Nick Haining - 7

Filled in well after Matt Fagerson's withdrawal. Another threat at the lineout while he picked up on the work Fagerson would have done clearing out rucks and leading defensively.
