Saracens' Wallaby Second Rower Off To France?
- 2506
Since the confirmation of Saracens' relegation to the Championship next season, a number of their players have been linked with numerous moves in and outside of the Premiership.
One of those players has been former Wallaby second rower Will Skelton who has been linked with moves to other Premiership clubs as well as the likes of the Brumbies and Waratahs back in Australia.
However, a report in the bi-weekly French rugby newspaper, Midi Olympique, the giant second-rower has signed a deal which will see him cross the English Channel to France to join La Rochelle.
The side that is headed by Ronan O'Gara and Jono Gibbes have secured the signature of the well sought after Wallaby on a two-year deal to replace Thomas Jolmes who is set to leave the club to join Toulon.
The move would be a further blow to new Wallabies head coach Dave Rennie with Skelton still ineligible to represent the Wallabies has does not fulfil the 60 test cap threshold for foreign-based players.
Saracens have confirmed they will be looking to offload players as a result of three-year salary cap breach which has earned the reigning English and European champions automatic relegation into next season’s Championship while Rugby Australia declared they were “going to go heavy” to persuade the former Wallabies lock to return Down Under but look to have been beaten to his signature.
Skelton returned to action for Saracens this past weekend after serving a suspension helping the side to a 21-27 victory while La Rochelle were comprehensively beaten by Racing 92 with Finn Russell scoring an intercept try in the 49-0 victory.
