Sale Sharks attempt to take a bite out of Tigers at Welford Road
- 1105
In the second and last game on Friday evening, Sale home-in on Leicester Tigers at Welford road.
Leicester’s Round 6 scheduled clash against Northampton was called off due to Covid-19, meaning that the last time they took the field was against Bath, the Tigers chiselling out a good, 36-31 victory.
Sale met their Round 6 challenge with victory against Worcester Warriors, 20-13, at the AJ Bell. Jono Ross’ charges put on a good display in the first half but seemed to go to sleep in the second, almost handing Warriors the game in the process.
Leicester find themselves hovering around the mid-table, with a total of 15 points after two victories, two draws and two losses. The club had a particularly difficult year in 2020 with a number of high-profile players leaving the club after the financial disaster which has been Covid-19. They are thus in something of a rebuilding phase and coming along decently, all things considered.
Sale are in strong position, currently occupying fourth spot, one point behind Exeter and Newcastle and five behind log-leaders Bristol Bears.
The teams last met in Round 18 of the previous competition, Sale taking the honours 40-31 at Welford Road.
Sale will be understandably confident going into this one, though both teams will be fresh after the recent fortnight’s break and Leicester, in the familiarity of their home-ground, just may have something up their sleeve.
