Round 1 of the Rugby Europe Championship is done and dusted with Romania and Spain kicking off their campaigns well.
The Romanians faced Russia first and put on an admiral display, scoring four tries to three with a final score of 34-25.
Spain brought the hammer down on the Netherlands with a whopping 43-0 score on the former’s home turf. The home side’s domination of possession (68%) allowed them to cross the whitewash a total of seven times.
In the final match-up of the round, Georgia and Portugal played to a 25-all draw. Both teams managed three converted tries and two penalties to reach their scores but Georgia will feel slightly frustrated at not putting their 60% possession to better use.
Spain thus occupy the top spot with 5 overall points and a points difference of 43. Romania hold second spot, also with 5 overall points, followed by Georgia and Portugal on 2 apiece while Russia and Netherlands are yet to get off the mark in terms of log points.
