Priestland opens up on Wales move

Bath flyhalf Rhys Priestland has conveyed that pulling on the Wales jersey again was not his motivation for returning to his home country when he signed with Cardiff Blues, with whom he will join up in the summer.

The 34 year-old has stressed that his focus will be his new club, despite much speculation that he has ambitions of higher honours.

"I'm going to Cardiff because I want to play for Cardiff and I want to do well for them," he said. "It's not to get back and play for Wales."

Wales boss Wayne Pivac appeared keen to include Priestland in his 2021 Six Nations squad, however, his request was rejected on the grounds that Priestland was plying his trade outside of Welsh borders.

"Playing for Bath has been my only focus since coming here," Priestland continued.

"Playing for Wales has not really been part of my thought process since I left the Scarlets and came to Bath.

"I have been involved with the Wales squad a couple of times but that has been a bonus."
