Premiership Rugby Round 4 review

Bristol Bears replaced Saracens at the top of the Premiership Rugby table on a thrilling Derby Weekend.

The Bears beat Exeter Chiefs 40-35 at Sandy Park, while Saracens lost for the first time this season - going down to 17-10 to Harlequins at the Stoop.


Elsewhere, Leicester Tigers beat Northampton Saints, Sale Sharks overpowered Newcastle Falcons and Bath Rugby scored 55 points in victory at Gloucester Rugby.

Here are 10 of the standout statistical headlines from Round 4:

  • Gabriel Ibitoye scored the only hat trick of Round 4, taking his total to four tries this season. Teammate Max Malins is the only player who has scored five tries in their campaign so far.
  • Finn Russell scored a round-high 18 points at the weekend, including five from his first try of the season.
  • Ben Earl (25), Alex Goode (24), and Tom Willis (23) made more carries than any other players at the weekend. Willis and Earl made a cumulative 18 dominant carries; Willis made the most post-contact metres (45).
  • Immanuel Feyi-Waboso was one of three players to make over 100 metres at the weekend (101). He has made over 100 metres in three of his four appearances this season.
  • Ollie Thorley beat five more defenders than any other player in Round 4, a total of 12. He also made the most clean breaks (four), and 33 post-contact metres (33).
  • Tomos Williams assisted two tries and made three clean breaks at the weekend.
  • Jack Kenningham and Irne Herbst were both among the top three tacklers at the weekend: they made 23 and 22 respectively. Two of Kenngham’s tackles were dominant and he won two turnovers.
  • Fin Baxter was the only player who made four dominant tackles at the weekend. 
  • Tom Curry made 18 successful tackles in Round 4 - missing none - and won as many turnovers as any other player (three).
  • Will Porter made more kicks in play (20) and kick in play metres (509) than any other player in Round 4.
