Newcastle 22-27 Leicester Tigers
Massive win for the Tigers as they ended their three match losing streak and won their first away fixture that was not at a neutral venue. Guy Thompson scored two tries to boost Tigers chances of survival with three games left. They are now eight points ahead of Newcastle with Northampton at home, Harlequins away and Bath at Welford Road.
Worcester 39-17 Sale
Five tries from Worcester against Sale helped them a crucial five points to increase their Premiership survival hopes. Worcester play Gloucester at home, Northampton away and Saracens at home. They currently sit seven points in front of Newcastle and must win one of their last two home games to avoid the drop.
With three rounds of Premiership play remaining, Newcastle are the favourites to be relegated to the Championship for the 2019/20 season. Last season, the Tyne club placed fourth in the top tier and secured a place in the Champions Cup. This season, the Falcons have struggled to remain competitive on both fronts which has led to their relegation battle and early exit from European competition.
Newcastle had won three of their previous four games to boost their chances of survial but the loss on Friday leaves them a step closer to a possible end to their six-year stay in the Premiership.
