Premiership Highlights: Exeter Chiefs v Northampton Saints
- 1189
Exeter managed to sneak a 31-30 win as they hosted Northampton Saints in the Aviva Premiership. The Chiefs did not have it all their own way and an early score from Rob Horne gave the visitors a 7-0 lead. Exeter responded with a penalty try with a strong drive from the forwards but great finish from Ben Foden on the 38-minute mark gave Northampton a 14-17 lead at the interval. Northampton flew out of the blocks in the second half where Horne and Mallinder combined to extend the Saints lead. Gareth Steenson and Piers Francis both slotted a number of penalties before a Don Armand try with 10 minutes remaining reduced the deficit to six points. From here Chiefs looked composed and work their way inside Northampton territory. They set a rolling maul and after a serious of pick and go's Thomas Waldrom was able to bundle over from close range and give Exeter victory with Joe Simmonds slotting the winning conversion.
