Canterbury claimed a 35-13 home win over the Tasman Makos to notch up their ninth Premiership Title in 10 years. Tasman ran in the opening try and added a penalty soon after for a 10-0 lead. Canterbury responded with two Mounga tries to lead 12-10. A penalty saw Tasman edge ahead 13-12, but Canterbury crossed for their third try of the half on the stroke of halftime to lead 19-13 at the break. Canterbury began to gain the ascendency in the second half as they kept the scoreboard ticking over with three penalties to pull ahead 28-13. Then, with 5 minutes to play, the hosts delivered the knock out blow as they scored their fourth try to wrap up the victory and continue their dominance in the competition.
