Player Ratings - Racing 92 vs Munster

Racing

  1. Eddie Ben Arous – 7/10

Put under some early pressure at scrum time but recovered well as the game wore on. He was very impressive in the loose, showing some good handling skills and dynamic ball carrying.

  1. Camille Chat – 8/10

Very solid afternoon from the Racing hooker. Posted an impressive lineout success rate, put in a reasonable shift at the breakdown and carried effectively throughout.

  1. Cedate Gomes Sa – 7/10

Very impressive at scrum time consistently piling the pressure on his opposite number. Made a good impression with ball in hand making a few huge carries and put in some crushing hits defensively.

  1. Donnacha Ryan – 8/10

Surprisingly quiet afternoon for the second row against his former side. Solid at lineout and hard working at the breakdown. Unfortunately failed to make an impression with ball in hand.

  1. Leone Nakarawa – 8/10

Very impressive in the lineout; winning a lot of his own ball and managing to steal a lot of opposition ball. Put in a big shift defensively and worked hard at the breakdown. Showed some beautiful

  1. Wenceslas Lauret – 7/10

Got through an excellent amount of work at the breakdown, disrupting the speed of the Munster play throughout the game. Also very solid defensively, posting an impressive tackle success rate.

  1. Bernard le Roux – 7/10

Excellent performance this afternoon from the French flanker. Showed great technique and determination at the breakdown to get over the ball and win several vital penalties for his side. He also looked dangerous when running with ball in hand.

  1. Yannick Nyanga– 8/10

Made a couple of crucial tackles and held up the Munster play at times. Unsurprisingly, he looked very dangerous with ball in hand and caused the opposition defence a host of problems from start to finish.

  1. Maxime Machenaud – 8/10

Another solid performance from the scrum-half. Controlled his backline well and executed some perfect box kicks. Passed accurately and made some big hits in defence when called upon. Very accurate from the tee also.

  1. Pat Lambie – 7/10

Played some lovely passes to set team mates into key attacking spaces at times. Made a couple of big defensive hits and kicked well out of hand throughout.

  1. Marc Andreu – 8/10

The winger showed a few moments of brilliance in attack to create space and opportunities for his team mates with his combination of direct running and deft offloading. He did very well defensively when called upon and put in a solid shift at the breakdown.

  1. Henry Chavancy – 7/10

Chavancy made up one half of an insanely impressive Racing centre partnership. In attack, he didn't do too much bar some slick passes, but in defence, he was an animal; making 14 tackles without missing one.

  1. Virmi Vakatawa – 8/10

Vakatawa was a beast going forward today. He fended, stepped and outmuscled the Munster defence and aside from Thomas was Racing's greatest attacking threat.

  1. Teddy Thomas – 9/10

Thomas continued his impressive season and managed to score twice for the French side. He scored twice and could have easily scored three but bizarrely decided to pop the ball to Machenaud over the line.

  1. Louis Dupichot – 7/10

Dupichot was electric in attack having made 5 runs for a return of 38 meters. In defence, he didn't have much to do and only made 2 tackles.

Munster

15. Andrew Conway - 6/10

Slotted in well at full back, made 78 metres going forward, beat 3 defenders and tried his hardest to try make a difference going forward. Took his try well.

14. Keith Earls - 6/10

Like Conway he gave his all in a tough day at the office for Munster. Had a few breaks but didn't really threaten the Racing defence.

13. Sam Arnold - 7/10

Carried well in the centre showing good physicality going forward and in defence. His awareness in defence at 13 was good, covering the pitch well.

12. Rory Scannell - 5/10

Not a great day for Scannell in the centre as he failed to make an impact against a strong Racing backline.

11. Alex Wootton - 4/10

Struggled today as Teddy Thomas tore him to shreds in the opening 20, missing 4 tackles. A day to forget for the winger.

10. Ian Keatley - 4/10

Keatley had a disastrous first half where nothing seemed to go right for the out-half, some poor decision making and he was hauled off after 52 minutes.

9. Conor Murray - 6/10

Not at his usual best as he failed to help get his side a grip on the game. Improved in the second half dictating the pace well but the game was well gone at that stage.

8. CJ Stander - 6/10

Carried well but like Murray wasn't at his usual best. 23 carries going forward but wasn't as effective as he could be.

7. Jack O'Donoghue - 6/10

100% tackle success and he carried well in his 52 minute stint today.

6. Peter O'Mahony - 5/10

Quiet day at the office for the Munster captain, wasn't his usual effective self.

5. Billy Holland - 6/10

The two second rows had trouble all day at the set piece, especially struggling with the line out.

4. Jean Kleyn - 4/10

Likewise with Holland, struggled at the set piece. Taken off with 20 to go.

3. Stephen Archer - 6/10

Worked hard in his 65 minute stint and scrummaged well.

2. Niall Scannell - 6/10

Carried well in the first half, can hold his head up.

1. Dave Kilcoyne - 6/10

Kilcoyne's work rate was outstanding in the first half, one of Munster's best performers in a dire first half.
