Number 1 vs number 14: Toulouse vs Agen
- 2108
Agen face a tough task this weekend as Toulouse make the journey to take them on at Stade Armandie.
Toulouse have enjoyed a fantastic run of form of late which has catapulted them to the apex of the overall standings. They find themselves undefeated in their last seven encounters, the closest they came to a loss was a 16-all draw against Castres at the beginning of November. Since then, Ugo Mola’s men have brushed aside Pau, Agen, Bayonne, Bordeaux, Montpellier and Stade Francais.
Agen, by contrast, find themselves stuck in a severe rut having posted not one victory so far after fourteen outings which leaves them stone last on the table. Their last challenge saw them face off against Castres, the game ending in a 39-23 victory for the latter.
What will dampen Agen’s confidence while simultaneously fuelling Toulouse’s will be the last result which occurred between them – in Round 12 – when Toulouse brought the hammer down with a 63-18 drubbing of their opponents.
It’s the first-placed team versus the last-placed team and, in light of recent form, if Agen were to pull off a victory, it would be the upset of the season.
