Nadi Looking at Dethroning Nadroga
- 980
It’s the final showdown for the Inkk Farebrother Challenge that will take place between Nadroga and Nadi at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, in what is expected to be an electrifying tussle between the two teams from the Western Division who are vying to take Fiji’s prestigious provincial trophy in the last challenge of the competition for 2023.
The two teams have a long standing history between them in the competition after meeting for the first time 65 years ago when the newly formed Nadi team defeated the Stallions in what would later become a tit-for-tat challenge when both teams enjoyed the honors of holders between 1980 to 1988.
Nadi will be out to seek revenge after losing in their 2022 challenge to Nadroga last year, their coach, Cohan Politini, shared that their only disadvantage is that they haven’t played for the past 4 weeks.
“All we can do is prepare as best as we can and we’ve managed to fit in a warm-up game there, and we’ll give it our best shot this Saturday’, said Politini.
He also shared that a few senior players have left the team for overseas contracts but he has faith in the players that have filled that void to deliver.
“We’ve had a very good development team preparing in the background over the past 7 weeks and they’ve slotted in very well. This weekends game is an opportunity for us to gauge how we need to perform for the upcoming Skipper semifinals ” he added
Nadi has been successful in the past 4 years in competing for both the Inkk Farebrother and Skipper Cup, and their coach has indicated that they are aiming at adding both trophies to their cabinet this year.
Meanwhile, a team from Fiji Rugby will be out collecting donations on behalf of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians cardio challenge that is aimed at raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer during this event. All proceeds will be handed over to WOWS Kids Fiji by our Rugby World Cup (RWC) team at the end of their RWC campaign.
The Inkk Farebrother match kicks-off at 3pm.
