Player Watch - RG Snyman

RG Snyman joined Munster in 2020 after featuring in every game in the Springboks 2019 World Cup winning campaign.

The back-to-back World Cup winner, who is set to join rivals Leinster at the end of the 2024 season, brings a wealth of experience to Munster heading into playoff stages in the United Rugby Championship.

Here are some of the Locks Key Stats from the URC Quater Final:

Carries: 3

Passes: 8

Offloads: 2

Tackles: 8

In addition to this, Snyman also had a strong performance in the lineout where he had a 100% success rate when jumping securing 5 from 5.

Heading into the match, Snyman made more offloads than any other player in the previous round of the URC (4) and scored his fourth try of the season.

The 6ft9’ lock had an immediate impact off kickoff making a dominant first collision to set the tone for the match.

While Snyman is known for making big carries and freeing his long arms to make offloads, the lock forward also had an immense impact in the lesser celebrated aspects of rugby such as his rucking, line out ability and scrummaging.

Munster dominated the scrums putting Ospreys under pressure on their feed and managed to win a couple of crucial penalties. The power coming through from the 117kg frame cannot be underestimated as he plays a pivotal role in providing support to the front row.

The lock forward had high workrate in one of the key jobs of a tight five player in their ability to clean and secure breakdowns. Ospreys with the likes of Jac Morgan pose a massive threat at the breakdown and Snyman managed to be directly involved in 17 attacking breakdowns either cleaning threats or sealing the ruck to ensure clean, quick ball for Munster.

Snyman made a strong impact in the 56th minute after making a dominant carry and getting the offload away, he displayed high workrate to get up immediately off the deck and clean a carry that almost got held up. Munster put together some phases in the 22m before knocking the ball on. They hit back with a penalty at the scrum and Crowley extended the lead with a penalty kick.
