Imhoff makes Rio cut

Juan Imhoff impressed Argentina 7s coach Gómez Cora in the final round of the 2015/16 World Rugby Sevens Series in London in May, to win a place in the 12-man squad.

Imhoff made himself available for Rio despite a tight schedule with Top 14 champions Racing 92, which forced him to miss all of the team’s preparation, including a two-week camp south of Rio.

He joined the squad earlier this week on his return from a summer break.

Whitely's availabilty to be determined

The Lions Warren Whiteley will undergo a fitness test on Thursday before the final call will be made on his availability.

Leicester Tigers appoint Tom Youngs as captain

Premiership club Leicester have announced the appointment of England international hooker Tom Youngs as club captain for the 2016/17 season.

The 29-year-old has made more than 100 first team appearances for the Tigers, in addition to winning 28 England caps and featuring in the British and Irish Lions Test series.

Nadolo out of Crusaders' quarter-final match

Winger Nemani Nadolo will miss Crusaders' Super Rugby quarter-final against the Lions in Johannesburg on Saturday as he has not fully recovered.

Francis agrees new Chiefs deal

The Chiefs head coach confirmed the Premiership club have taken up a clause to extend the contract of Welsh international Tomas Francis.The York-born forward, who has won 14 caps for his country, including five in last autumn’s World Cup, has agreed a deal that will see him stay at Sandy Park until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Du Plessis to miss Chiefs clash

The Stormers are set to face the Chiefs in Saturday's quarter-final at Newlands without fly-half Jean-Luc du Plessis, who is battling to overcome an ankle injury.

Head coach Robbie Fleck said that he is particularly concerned about Du Plessis' fitness, "Jean-Luc's injury is very serious, and it doesn’t look good at the moment,” said Fleck.

"I don’t want to speculate, but Jean-Luc’s ankle injury looks like syndesmosis, which normally means you’re out for four months."
