Mitre 10 Cup Round Two Highlights: Bay of Plenty v Waikato
- 1702
A strong performance from the Bay as Chase Tiatia and their pack set the side up for a big victory over Waikato. The Bay rolled over Otago by 43 points last week and the Steamers kept the momentum this week claiming a 26 point victory. The Steamers dominated up front but it was the star Waikato centre Quinn Tupaea who got on the scoreboard first as he sliced through the defence in the 8th minute. Richard Judd hit back for the Bay after a massive scrum just 5 minutes later before Ross Geldenhuys and Joe Ravouvou scored to give the Bay a 22-7 lead. Tupaea doubled up just before the break with Flecther Smith converting for what would be Waikato's final contribution to the scoreline. Emoni Narawa made a great impact from the bench and ran a great line off of a quick tap by Chase Tiatia to score before Dan Hollinshead converted two penalties to put the game from beyond Waikato's reach. Chase Tiatia had the final say scoring a nice try from a show and go to make it a comprehensive 26 point win.
