Melbourne Rising Captain Announced

Angus Cottrell has been appointed the Melbourne Rising captain for 2018.
 
For Cottrell, the appointment marks an incredible rugby resurrection after his career was in limbo just 12 months ago due to injuries and contract uncertainty. Missing the whole 2017 season with a serious knee injury, Cottrell was without a full-time contract for 2018 when he arrived in Melbourne late last year.
  
“When he came to 2018 pre-season he didn’t even have a contract and I think that desperation is something that showed in his performances at training and games,” coach Eoin Toolan.
 
“To get to the highest level is something the younger guys can take from him. There needs to be a real hunger and drive to get your chances because they won’t be handed to you."
  

First stop for Cottell and his men will be Suva, where the team will take on the Fijian Drua this Saturday afternoon.
