Bristol Bears fullback Max Malins has been voted as September’s Gallagher Player of the Month, winning 33% of the public poll ahead of Bath Rugby centre pairing Will Butt and Ollie Lawrence and Saracens flanker Andy Onyeama-Christie in a closely run contest.
After two rounds of Gallagher Premiership Rugby, Malins topped the try-scoring charts having scored a brace in the Bears’ opening round away win against Newcastle Falcons and the England international followed up with two further tries and two try assists in a West Country thriller against Gloucester Rugby in Round 2.
The 27-year-old is among the top ten players in carries, metres made, defenders beaten and line breaks in what has been a blistering start to the season which is sure to keep the former Saracens man in the international reckoning as he bids to add to his 22 caps in England colours.
Chris Fishwick, of Gallagher’s Bristol office, said: “It is a pleasure to present the Gallagher Player of The Month trophy to Max who has played brilliantly so far this season. Bristol Bears are off to a promising start, having recently won against Newcastle Falcons, and Max has certainly been keeping momentum behind the team. Colleagues in our Bristol office will be rallying behind Bears this season and we wish them the best of luck.”
The shortlist was voted for by a panel of media professionals.
The judges for the 2024/25 Gallagher Premiership Rugby season are: Jill Douglas (ITV, BBC), Ali Eykyn (TNT Sports), Hugh Godwin (i), Chris Jones (BBC), Alex Lowe (The Times), Gavin Mairs (Telegraph), Ugo Monye (BBC, TNT Sports), Nick Mullins (TNT Sports) and Claire Thomas (BBC, TNT Sports).
