London Irish youngster scores 100m solo wonder try against Toulon

London Irish youngster Henry Arundell scored a stunning 100-metre solo try against Toulon in the Challenge Cup.

Swerving and speeding past Toulon defenders, Arundell finished off a brilliant score that will be remembered for years to come.

Shortly after coming off the bench for Tom Parton, the 19-year-old received a pass from Nick Phipps who managed to get the ball away while being hunted down by Gabin Villiere.

He managed to sprint past the first Toulon defender before going through a gap and out of his own 22. He left Baptiste Serin in his wake with a jink step to the right before stepping one last time and charging over in the corner. 

"This is remarkable," Jamie Lyall said on the match commentary.


"What a break from Arundell. That is astonishing. A try to end all tries."

Co-commentator David Flatman said: "I don't care if he's a rookie, this is world-class. There just ain't many players in the world who could have done that, would have done that. Absolutely sensational."

 
 
The Exiles speedster faces a tough decision when it comes to higher honours as he qualifies for England, Scotland and Wales. 
 
 
The 19-year-old featured for England U20s during the 2022 Six Nations and scored two tries against Wales and one apiece against Scotland and France.
 
 
 
According to a report by The Daily Mail, Scotland is thought to be monitoring his progress and view him as a long-term successor to captain Stuart Hogg.
 
 
 
The report added that "Wales [are] understood to be monitoring his situation closely, too, the young flyer is much in demand".
 
 
Eddie Jones could also call upon the speedster, although Freddie Steward has made the fullback jersey his own since his test debut.
