Jimmy Gopperth signs new deal at Wasps

Wasps veteran Jimmy Gopperth has signed a new contract at the club - a month before his 37th birthday.

The news silences the rumours that he was set to leave the Ricoh Arena club after 96 appearances.

A native of New Plymouth, Taranaki, the evergreen playmaker spent three years playing provincial rugby for Wellington, before joining the Hurricanes in 2005.

He moved to the Blues in 2009, but only spent a season there, before leaving his home country to join Newcastle Falcons.

His prolific goal-kicking did much to keep them in the Premiership in 2009/10 and 2010/11, but he could not save them a year later, when Wasps survived by the skin of their teeth, to condemn them to the drop. During his time at Kingston Park he was twice the Premiership’s top scorer.

He stayed with them as they won immediate promotion in 2012/13, before moving to Leinster for two seasons. 

Gopperth signed for Wasps ahead of the 2015/16 season, taking over the number 10 shirt from Andy Goode.
