Bedford Blues have announced the signing of London Irish fly half Jacob Atkins on a short-term loan deal.
Atkins, 21, joined the London Irish academy by virtue of coming through the AASE programme at the start of the 2016/17 season and continued his development under the watchful eye of former England fly-half Charlie Hodgson.
The youngster has spent time with National League One side Rosslyn Park and heads to Goldington Road to provide cover at number ten with both Will Hooley and Harry Sheppard currently out of action.
Speaking about Atkins' arrival, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "We are extremely grateful to Declan Kidney and London Irish for allowing Jacob to help us out at this time. Ed Coulson has done an incredible job for us in the absence of both Will Hooley and Harry Sheppard, so having Jacob here now gives us another option at 10.
"Will and Harry are well on the road to recovery however Jacob now has a chance to impress and get some good game time under his belt. He’s looked good in training this week and can’t wait to get out onto the Goldington Road pitch.”
