Including Eddie Jones on Aus' coaching staff a 'no-brainer', says Turinui

Former Wallaby centre Morgan Turinui has said that incorporating Eddie Jones into Australia’s current coaching set-up should be a ‘no-brainer’.

Turinui was capped 20 times for the Wallabies between 2003 & 2005 and, after Jones’ recent axing from the Head Coaching role of England, the former believes the latter’s skills could be put to great use Down Under.

“A technical advisor role, I think it’s a bit of a no-brainer,” Turinui told Wide World of Sports.

“I like Dave Rennie; I think he’s the right guy for this World Cup campaign. Like the work he’s done. I think it’s a good coaching staff. And (manager) Chris Webb and (attack coach) Scott Wisemantel have strong existing relationships with Eddie, so I think the alignment’s there for a really nice role.

“The important thing is having real clarity about who does what, but in terms of a winning Wallabies team, I think he’s a guy that can help them achieve, help them be better at the World Cup. I think it’s a bit of a no-brainer.”

Jones’ World Cup CV is particularly impressive, having taken two teams – Australia and England – to the tournament final in 2003 and 2019 respectively, and was also on the victorious 2007 Springbok coaching staff, rendering him a man of invaluable experience. However, as is to be expected, there is now much speculation as to what the 62 year-old’s next move will be.

“It’s always hard trying to unwrap Eddie’s motivations – a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma,” Turinui said in jest.

“But I’ve never seen a better coach during a game.”
