Wales got the defence of their Six Nations Championship off to the perfect start with a 42-0 hammering of Italy in the opening round. Wales started strongly and kept the scoreboard ticking over with three early penalties to build a 9-0. Italy were far more competitive in the second half, creating some scoring opportunities but being unable to penetrate a stout Welsh defence.
