The Lions capitalized immediately with a try for an eight point advantage heading into the final quarter of the match. Shortly after, the Lions crossed for their fifth try to take control of the game at 34-19. A penalty extended the hosts lead to 18 points, but the Waratahs hit back with try to make it 37-26.
