Highlanders vs Hurricanes – Top Performers
- 1187
The Hurricanes narrowly beat the Highlanders 31-28 in a classic new Zealand derby on Friday morning. Here are our top performers of the titanic struggle!
Ardie Savea
The All Black loose forward was in sensational form for the Canes today and was involved in nearly every phase of important play. On attack, Savea managed to gain 100 metres in the match, beat three defenders and score two important tries.
He also managed to pull a try-saving tackle against Tevita Li in the second half which impressed the commentators.
Ben Lam
Although he didn’t score today, the winger was ever so lively on attack and that shows in some of the numbers he racked up. Lam made 90 metres in total and managed to beat eight defenders which was the highest in the game.
Beauden Barrett
The New Zealand No.10 controlled the game nicely with his boot but was also not scared to attack the gain line when necessary. Barrett made lead the game in carries (15) and in metres gained (113) with Tevita Li. On defence, the flyhalf also did a really good job as he made plenty of tackles and won three turnovers.
Shannon Frizell
Besides Savea’s numbers, Frizell was definitely the second best loosie in the game! He was able to carry the ball 12 times, make 11 tackles beat four defenders, successfully offload three-time and capped it all off with a try in the first half.
Ben Smith
The veteran fullback was definitely the standout back for the Highlanders this week as he made plenty metres (101) and beat four defenders in the match
