Falcons eager to sink talons into Exiles
- 1006
The penultimate game of the round sees the brave Newcastle Falcons travel to the Brentford Community Stadium to tackle the latest challenge of London Irish.
The Falcons have risen as cult heroes of the competition thus far, coming up from the IPA Championship and standing back for no-one, notching up four victories in six outings. Their most recent skirmish ended with the score at 22-10 in their favour against Gloucester in Round 6.
Exiles, on the other hand, have had a difficult time of it to date, with a solitary victory under the belt – in the second round, against Leicester Tigers – three draws (two Covid-realted) and a brace of losses. Round 6 saw them push Harlequins to a 27-all draw in an entertaining game at the Twickenham Stoop. After trailing by five points at half-time, Irish were the better side in the second stanza, shifting up a gear and very nearly stealing it at the death.
The Falcons are definitely above their opponents in the pecking order at present and can be expected to bring their usual flair which has elevated them to 2nd place overall on the standings. However, Exiles showed good character in their last performance – if they can unearth it once more, fans could be in for a cracking game.
